03 1500 Quad Cab SLT 4x4 Front CV Parts
 

Hello Dodge Forums...Long time listener - First-time caller :icon_lol:

I just sold my 2001 and bought a 2003 1500 Quad Cab Off-Road edition with a 4.7
The original owner had recently removed both front CV shafts after the passenger side went bad. I see the splines on that side are stripped so I will also need the intermediate shafts too. I figured it best to replace both sides at the same time.

I need to know what the correct part numbers are for them and what manufacturers are of decent quality to purchase. I have no idea if there are different spline counts on this model year. I need to have them here by Friday so I have to order them soon.

Since no one has responded yet, check out rock auto, or stop by your local parts store and ask them.

Don't drive it like that either. The outer CV joints/nuts actually hold the front wheel bearings together. Without them, the inner hub, and tire, feels free to separate itself from the rest of the truck..... Not fun.

Thanks...I do not always trust some of the people in the auto parts stores to be 100% correct these days. haha

Thanks, I actually drove it home from the place that I bought it approx 125 miles from my home averaging 80mph on the interstate 80% of my drive was on the interstate. The truck drove smoother than my Challenger.

Actually, several posts on this subject of driving without them are contradicting and confusing. Some say it's OK some say Not???

Erm. No. Those folks got lucky. The outer CV holds things together.

Looking at RockAuto, there seems to be some hubs that are the same part number 4wd vs 2wd, and others manufacturers that have different numbers between 2 and 4wd... not sure what the differences are on those. There are plenty of fwd cars with same technology rear hubs w/o shafts through the center sandwiching the bearings... I'm on the fence, depends on the manufacturer I guess.
