2008 1500 SLT. My son bought me new headlights for father's day. He didn't know better and got the ones with the amber bar across the bottom but I actually like them. So I would like to tap into my blinker/running light wires and add a bulb into that receptacle. The headlights did not come with the bulb or socket or any wiring harness or pigtail but the stock harness to the side blinker bulb is 3 wires. The lower receptacle is not the 3157 bulb size, it's designed for one of the mini bulbs.
Can anyone suggest a good bulb socket and pigtail harness? Part numbers or links on Amazon or something?
I would assume if I want it to work the same as the other light, ie; both running light and blinker I want a 3 wire pigtail and I'd tap all three wires going to the blinker bulb harness?
Anything else needed? Extra fuse anywhere or does just adding one more small bulb not make a big difference?
I figured it out but thought I'd post for reference in case anyone else ever runs into this. I decided to just wire the amber bar as a running light, not a blinker. The correct socket was a Grote 84-1008 from NAPA and I used 194 LED Amber bulbs. White wire on the Grote connector tapped to middle wire on blinker bulb harness, black Grote wire to black. If you want the bar to be a blinker, you'd go Grote white to outside wire on the harness. If you want both, I guess you'd need a 3 wire socket.
I also will point out something else that may be helpful for others who buy aftermarket headlights. Many times there are complaints that they get condensate inside and adding some extra extra sealant may remedy this. I added sealant all the way around. I had some GE Clear silicone so I used that. Here is the problem to be aware of. If you look at the bottom of the headlight, under the amber strip there's a thin black line and then there's clear plastic under that. That thin black line is a small plastic strip that the headlight cover rests on/maybe adheres to. When I added the clear silicone, it dries kind of milky and it showed through the clear plastic at the bottom and looked not good at all. The other three sides, no problem. So I had to carefully dig and peel it all out. then squeezed a q-tip under there to get the residue off of the clear plastic Then what I did was got some black silicone and used my caulking gun to squeeze it in there to where it actually squeezed up right to that black line and completely filled in under the clear plastic so now it's even and all black.
I like them. With the black aftermarket grille very nice combo.
