Grand cherokee engine into ram 1500
 

Good morning Gentlemen,

quick question, I am looking for a replacement engine for my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 ST 3.7 V6 RWD VIN K 8th digit.
would a Jeep Grand Cherokee 2005 Laredo 3.7 V6 RWD VIN K 8th digit fit?

some say yes, some say no on ebay
what would be the correct answer?

Should be the same engine. Some of the peripherals are likely different.... So, swap over your intake/sensors/accessories, and likely the oil pan, and oil pump pickup as well.

I agree. Should be the same. Someone else did notice something when doing a 3.7l liberty to ram swap. There was a bushing in the crank shaft because the torque converter was different and had a different size pilot. If the transmission is the same, you won't have to fix this. If if does having the bushing, you'll need a pilot bearing puller to remove it. Relatively inexpensive tool.

@KDodge75 yes, that was me. after picking up the new liberty engine from the junkyard and starting to change some accessories I unfortunately found a blown head gasket, SMH
so now I am bringing back that liberty engine and instead of getting my money back they want to refund me with a grand Cherokee engine.
anyways, I was able to get that bushing out with some Blast! and a lady foot pry bar!!! I bought 2 engines so far for this damn truck, a liberty engine and a Dakota engine, both had a bushing in the crank shaft and I think it has something to do with both engines either being a 4x4 or having had a 42RLE transmission bolted. My RAM truck has a 45RFE transmission with a torque converter diameter of 1.810". The 42RLE transmission needs a smaller diameter in torque converter, a 1.3" or 1.5", that's why they put that bushing into the shaft...

Just make sure the crank tone wheel count is the same

Same engine. The 8th digit in the vin defines the engine. if both are K then both engines are the same.
