2005 Ram 2500. 5.7 L Hemi
I have a 2004 Ram 2500 that continues to stay in limp mode and I'm getting frustrated with it. I have replaced the TB and TPS. I have done everything possible and the thing just does not want to co operate with. Any suggestions would help me out a great deal. Have already spent close to 2000 and I'm still getting no where. The dealership keeps telling all these different problems and I have done what they have asked and been burned
Does the truck have any codes? Problems that are hard to diagnose get a lot of parts at dealership. With flat rate, technicians get so much time for diagnostics so I think then tend to jump the gun and throw parts at it. Sometimes independent repair shops are better at this sort of thing.
The truck is not giving me any codes. I have a scanner and u have also done the key trick to getting the codes. It is giving me nothing. It starts up fine but within 2-3 min it goes into limp mode and the red lightning bolt comes on. I have done a hard reboot in the TIPM also and I a having the same issues
The bolt (solid not flashing) usually points to a problem with the fly by wire throttle on the hemi. Some people say they fix it with cleaning the throttle body, others have to replace the throttle position sensor. Since you've replaced both and are still experiencing the issue, I'd check for wire/connector damage/corrosion next.
I dont know about a 2005 but a 2004 dodge ram 1500 5.7 hemi has a accelerator pedal position sensor (apps) bellcrank on some sites that can also fail , just not usually but I did have to replace mine , my symptoms were a little different , it would only happen randomly but since I replaced it has not done it since , bad thing its expensive an no guarantee ,,mine is right under batter tray , I would check other sensors first like mapp sensor an I think there Air Temperature Sensor ,and egr valve , and may not always throw a proper code , also there is a tube from egr valve to back of throttle area that can clog and there is a pcv valve in that area as well, thats just things on my 2004 1500 I would recommend checking ,,also trace the tb wiring and look for shorted out wiring, you be surprised what that can cause , could be a bad spot in wiring were it goes around the engine block that is hard to see
I also had issue with the catalytic converters being clogged , unsure if it could cause the lightning bolt issue or not
Also have the battery checked , never know
