Driver Side CV Axle issues
Hi,
I have a 2008 Ram 1500 Bighorn 4x4. The whole front end has been replaced. New upper and lower control arms with ball joints and bushings, tie rod ends, stabilizing bars, Rancho 9000 XL Shocks all the way around, and new CV axles on both sides. COMPLETELY NEW EVERYTHING! I am having issues with the driver side CV axle. It is really loose and it was just installed a month ago. You can hear it rattling and popping when you hit a bump in the road. My question is, could it be the Intermediate axle or something else. I don't know what else to do to fix the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I doubt it's the intermediate shaft, I just replaced mine and the cv axle on the driver's side on my 08 Big Horn. The intermediate shaft is only about 6 inches long and most of it is inside the diff housing. The other other end is connected to the cv shaft. There is not a new c clip on new cv axles shafts and you have to use the old one or buy a new one. If that was left off then that could be your problem. Now, when I replaced the intermediate shaft, it had a new C clip on it so I didn't have to reuse the old one, but you have to make sure one is there before installing the new cv shaft. The only reason I replaced the intermediate shaft along with the cv axle is because it was rusted to the cv shaft and came out with the cv shaft when I was driving it out of the diff. The splines looked fine but since I was in there and it came out I figured might as well and replace it. There is also a C clip on the inboard side of the intermediate shaft that holds it in the diff. If you dont have C clips installed then your shaft can slide off/out since its not locked on with the C clip. Hope this helps.
