Aftermarket sirius with factory hookups
I have a factory installed sirius radio, right now I am using the free year that comes with the truck and I really like it, but when the free year runs out I think I want to get a plug and play sirius radio so I can take it to other cars and inside the house, and so I can get song info, etc. Does anyone know if you can use the factory hookups to install an aftermarket radio. I don't care if the factory head unit can tune stations, I just want to be able to use whatever audio hookup is there, and the antenna hookup. Thanks for any info.

pay for the service on your radio and then pay half price for the second aftermarket radio. Otherwise, you will have 2 antennas on your roof and have to move the second one to another car everytime you switch cars.
That's why I was wondering if I can use the factory hookups, including the factory antenna. I can use the antenna that comes with the radio on the second car.
Wait a min...so you can't use the factory Sirius antenna with an aftermarket head unit?
That BLOWS! Who in the hell wants to use a crappy system with Sirius?
I've got an 06 1500 with the cheesy system, but it came with a year of Sirius. I hadn't activated it yet because I wanted to use the year with another unit instead. Perhaps I made a mistake in buying a Sirius ready unit, I should've stuck with XM! (If I've got to switch out the antenna anyway)

I think the only problem lies with the connector on the antenna for the stock unit versus an aftermarket. Find the sirius box and compare. Then check with radio shack if they make a connector that you can splice to the stock antenna.
