Default Grinding noise from Transfer Case in 2WD

Hi I have a 2003 Ram 1500 5.7 4X4 automatic with electric shift transfer case. This morning when I went to leave the house, it is cold under 20 degrees, got a few hundred yards down the driveway and a grinding noise started in 2wd. Sounds like it is coming from under the drivers seat. Stopped the truck put it in park looked under the truck everything looked fine. Put it in drive got a little further down the driveway and it started again. Put it in 4WD and the noise went away. When I hit blacktop put it back in 2wd and the noise came back. Went back home and looked at everything more closely. Transfer case is not leaking and fluid level is fine. One question should the drive shaft spin freely in park and 2WD engine not running? Mine does not.

Any ideas? I did a quick search for 2003 transfer case actuators and cannot find any, is this not a serviceable part?

Thanks

Sounds like something that requires pulling the transfer case to find the culprit
