Default DIY: Fogs with Highs '06-'08

I was unable to find anything except for it being said that it has to be programmed.

THIS IS NOT TRUE!!

I took it upon myself to find a way. I just did this today.

There are 2 tabs on the sides of the fuse box under the hood. Release the tabs and pull up the fuse box. There is a group of wires running behind it along the fender. In this group there will be a white wire with a yellow tracer. This is the wire for the + side of the fogs. Check to be sure you have the correct one. It will be grounded when the fogs are off, and hot "+" when on. All that is needed is to cut this wire and connect it to a relay. The trigger wire I used for the relay was a fuse tap (add a circuit) for one of the parking lights.

Relay connections:
The fuse tap was connected to pin 86. I took power from the + cable on the side of the fuse box, added a fuse and connected to pin 30. Wire from the negative of battery to pin 85. The white with yellow tracer to pin 87, the front of vehicle side. The "back" side of the white/yellow wire was covered with a small piece of heat shrink tubing to cover the cut end. All wires were ran under the fuse box and that is were the relay is located also. Clip the fuse box back down to secure it.

I did cut a small slot in the side of the fuse box to run the wire from the fuse tap so it would not get pinched.

The only drawback to this is the fogs will always be on as long as the parking lights are on. As long as you are fine with this (as I am) there is no issue.

If you ever want to return the wiring back to stock, just remove everything and reconnect the white/yellow wire.

If there is a need from anybody, I can take some pics and put up.

P.S.- I didn't put this in the DIY section because I didn't see a post new thread button, maybe I'm blind, maybe not.

This has been known for a long time lol....but not everyone wants their fogs on all the time with the parking lights. Also rooting around in the TIPM and messing with things like that in a CAN bus vehicle can cause you issues down the road.

Yup, your TIPM will bite you back after a while, and there is no repair. Just a $800 bill.

May have been known but I couldn’t find anything.

Anyway, I didn’t mess with any of the wires for the TIPM directly. The white/yellow wire ran behind the TIPM not to it. The only thing I did with the TIPM is put a fuse tap in one of the parking light spots and put the power wire going to the power wire on the TIPM.

The fuse tap isn’t pulling much of anything, just to trip the relay. I don’t see how it would cause an issue, but I guess time will tell.

You wouldn't think so, but these forums (not just here) are full of horror stories of people chasing electrical gremlins because they thought they could just wire **** into a CAN bus vehicle they way they did an older one.

True. As said, we'll see. I just hate the dark spot it front of me when the highs are on. If it seems that it may be an issue, I'll rewire to a switched ignition source and they'll just be on all the time. I like tinkering so it'll give me something to do.

If you know anyone with a StarScan, it's disgustingly easy to fix lol.

Bummer. If you run across someone with one or an emulator, once plugged in and in the BUS layout:
1. Access FCM
2. Disable fog lights
3. Enable fog lights as export model
4. Done
