Default Cranks, Won't Start, No New Codes

My 2006 RAM 1500 cranks but won’t start:

· Quad Cab

· 5.7L Hemi

· Auto Trans

· 4WD

· 150K

Oil & filter changes every 3K or so.

After years of super-reliability, it wouldn’t start and showed these codes:

· P0406 – EGR

· P0113 – IATS

· P0300 – Misfire

Replaced:

· EGR

· Intake Air Temperature Sensor

· Crankshaft Position Sensor

· Camshaft Position Sensor

· Spark Plugs

· Coils (were replaced five years ago but when I inspected them while doing the plugs, there was corrosion on a lot of the leads)

· Air Filter

· Fuel Pump

Procedures:

· Cleaned Throttle Body

· Cleaned Fuel Tank

· Hard reset ECM

· Hard reset TIPM

Truck started after the fuel pump replacement but not very elegantly. Smoothed-out and ran fine within 30 seconds. Shut off and re-started, again a rough start but she smoothed-out. Then, thinking maybe the ECM needed to “learn” the new EGR, I drove her about 30 miles at a variety of speeds, including some hard acceleration to highway speed. She ran great…like a beast.

The next morning, I went to take her to work and she’d crank but not start. I think I’m getting spark and fuel because there’s an occasional soft backfire from the tailpipe.

Any ideas? The only thing I can think of is a failed TIPM.

I think you overloaded the parts cannon !

I'd buy the following:
Volt Ohm Meter
Fuel pressure tester
Noid kit
Vacuum gauge.

Learn how to use those basic tools, and track down what is not working. Check the wiring and connectors going to the fuel pump since fiddling back there seemed to cause the engine to get fuel.

Resolved.

Swapped-out the after-market crank- and cam-position sensors for OEM and now she's running great.
