Did a search here not much found; my 05 Dodge 1500 radio works just fine except for the volume control ****. It started acting weird a year or so ago and now it takes several minutes of messing around with it for the volume to go up or down (indicating volume). Sometimes if I turn it to the right the numbers (and volume) go down! Is this a common issue? Any solutions short of changing out head unit?
I feel like I read a thread on a similiar issue not too long ago. It might be time to switch the head unit out, and if you end up doing that then go to something new.
If you're interested in just getting a replacement factory head unit, I have one of the later MP3 CD players with a SAT radio adapter. Would bolt right in and be plug and play.

Well just wanted to pass on a quick 15 second fix if you are having this problem. I can't find the darn thing now but I found a youtube video of some guy overseas explaining that the problem is basically caused by a thin layer of crud built up on the rotary encoder. The solution is turn the volume **** back and forth in a full motion quickly for about 15 seconds. This action will clear supposedly away whatever has been building up. Did it today, absolutely fixed the problem, volume **** working perfectly now. .
