Default Hemi Oil

I just read in the manual that my 06 hemi takes 5w-20 oil. I know that I have never seen 5-20 oil on the shelf's. Amsoil does not make it. is it because I have the MDS on the 06 hemi 1500 quad cab. Can I use another viscosity? Any thoughts? expirence!

My 05 also uses 5-20 oil. These motors are built tight, no need for heavier oil. I'm using standard oil until 5,000 miles then switching to Mobil 1.

Using a higher weight oil will disable your MDS!

I had a feeling that it had something to do with the MDS. That system is an electric type disabler on the lifters,so how is that related. Olso where to find 5w-20 besides the dealer?

I just purchased 7 quarts of Mobil 1 5w20 full synthetic for my 05 HEMI tonight at AutoZone. I had took all they had left on the shelf. It is definatly hard to find. Pepboys might carry as well.

GiRam,

Dodge didn't introduce the 5w-20 for the MDS. Like I said earlier I have an 05 2500 NO MDS and it requires 5w-20. As to where to find it, any automotive supply store. I used NAPA for my first oil change. I will switch to mobil 1 after the motor has a chance to break in, around 5,000 miles.

Really hard to find synthetic 5w-20 for some reason. The counter guy at AutoZone had a theory. He said most people with new vehicles do not change their own oil. And since 5w-20 is mostly used in new vehicles the stores do not carry it because of the small demand. Could be a regional thing though, most of the yuppies around here don't change their own oil anyways. Sucks.

GIRam,
I just changed my oil to Amsoil 5w-20 at 3.75/ qt. I purchased it directly through their web site, it arrived in two days. I broke mine in to 15k miles using Pennzoil 10w-40, using mobil1 filters the whole time, and now 5w-20 till it dies, with mobil 1 filters.

Go Here for Page http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/Sea...x?CategoryID=5

Hope this helps.
