Just joined the forum. I sold my 2004 VW Diesel Golf because I want a 4 x 4! I just bought an 03 Ram 1500 SLT. What can you guys tell me about it? Any things I should watch out for (ie. common problems/weirdness)? Any maintenance tips? I'm new to the 4 x 4 world so any info is welcome. I look forward to reading through the forums, Thanks

 

Keep an eye on the front brakes. Warped rotors seem to be a real problem. A lot of people have changed over to PowerSlot rotors and Hawk pads to eliminate warpage problems.

Pinion seals in the rear differential have been a problem for some. You'll know the seal is leaking because fluid will be thrown from the front side of the differential. This is not as rampant as the brake rotor issue.

Also, if you have the anti-spin rear, some have had problems with the c-clip breaking. You might want to change all the fluids and check the rear differential just to be safe.

Also, ATF+4 is all you should use in the transmission. I know others swear by other products.

There seems to be a universal thirst for gasoline in all v8 models.

I have the 4.7. I'll keep an eye on the rotors. I'll watch for fluid in the wrong places too
