Basically the coil-on-plug setup is pretty hot. You MIGHT get a little better plug but the factory set-up is a pretty good set-up. There are upgrades to the coil on plug set-up but it is costly and I don't know if it's available for the 4.7 or not. I think the last place I found this set-up was through JC Whitney and it was around $600.

What is done with GM's Quad 4 Family with a similar Coil on Plug design is to replace the springs inside the coil to a lower resistance metal, or add extra coil packs before the main coils to deliver a hotter spark, I don't know if the 287's Ignition is exactly the same as the Quad 4's but that's what's done there.
