'05 Hemi with 170k, do I need to watch for anything in particular?
I have had my '05 Laramie since new. ...been running Amsoil 0w20 since about 30k. I have been known to tow about 5k lbs a couple of times a year for about 100 miles. Just a little tick on startup that goes away in a minute. The rockers are rusting fast and instead of investing the money to rebuild them, I'm just going to wait it out til vehicles prices drop. ...hopefully in 2022! So I figure to put another 10k-15k on it.
So my question is... At 170k miles, should I be concerned or watch out for anything? ...like the timing chain, follower (if there is one) or the oil pump? The only things that I have had to repair on this is the EGR and the crank sensor. I've flushed the coolant a couple of times. ...and the trans fluid at about 80k.
Thanks,
Mark

I'd do a single ATF drain-n-fill since you're saying it's been 90K since last. I usually do mine every 25-30K. Supertech ATF+4 (if that's what you use) is < $6 at Wally World and it's as good as any out there.
I have 360,000 on my hemi never been apart. does not even burn oil. you should be fine.
.mobil 1 10-30 wt only mod was a 180 degree thermostat which i recommend..
compression check last month gave me 160 -165
I did rebuild the tranny once 100,000 miles ago. off you tube videos.

hotter temps are better for smog only.. but we all know heat is the enemy of your engine. you will see a big difference just on the
temp gauge alone....I had no problem passing smog in California with a 180 in.. even with almost 400,000 miles.........
180 thermostat is the only way to go.... don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

So as fate would have it... My truck left me stranded about three weeks after this post. It turned out to be the fuel pump. But the story didn't end there. Since Dodge didn't have a Mopar replacement, and Summit said that the Mopar replacement was about a month out... I opted for the Delphi unit from Summit. I had to drop the 5 foot long tank with 17 gallons in it. (I couldn't get the syphon hose past the anti-roll float) So I dropped it and replaced the pump. I put it back up and filled it with seven gallons... Only to find out that the gauge didn't register a single gallon! After another twelve gallons, it shows 1/4 of a tank.
So I ordered the Mopar replacement (same price as the Delphi unit) and it arrived five days later! Had I known that, I would've ordered that originally!!! I haven't had a chance to drop the tank again and replace the Delphi unit. I hope to do that within the next two weeks. Hopefully that will be accurate.
I won't even bother to mention that it took 3 days to get the filler HOSE from the Dodge dealer since the guy at the parts counter "forgot" to order it. ...and the guy at Bumper-to-Bumper ordered the wrong trans output shaft seal. ...ridiculous!
This experience just pushed me over the edge to go buy a new vehicle. So after changing the pump in this one, it will be sold. ...and I'll report on my "new to me" 2020 Laramie (with 17k miles). ...and the hassle with that one in the first week of ownership!
