So I want to add steering wheel controls to my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 but we have a major problem. All forms of harness are sold out everywhere not even Ebay can help me. What can I do to get past this issue? The junkyard here has exactly 1 dodge ram of this generation and its the wrong year. (pre 06 i think).

Unfortunately that doesn't have what i'm looking for. Rock auto has failed as well.

 

I would expect the radio controls harness in the column part to be the same for all years in this generation and probably even 2nd generation trucks. I think the switch is the same through all years. Its just a base voltage with different resistors i believe, the computer knows what they mean based on résistance. Next option would be source connectors and build the harness

 

Then you don't actually know what you're looking at AND didn't bother to look at the rest of the pictures. It's all one harness. Or else you would've seen this....oh hey, what are those things......

 

The junkyard will be your best bet. Multiple types of vehicles came with the same switches, harnesses. Do some research and you'll find multiple models and years.
The only thing is the PCM gets the signal from the switches then converts the analog signal into a digital signal the radio will know how to interpret.
So the PCM will have to flashed with the information in order to convert the signal.
Back in the days Dealers could call Dodge and request to get the pcm modified to include that package, but since Fiat took over they stopped it. I did contact a guy who did it for many guys from this forum, but the system doesn't allow him to do it anymore.

I did this same modification, I found an adapter that I can convert the analog signal to the digital signal my aftermarket stereo needed.

You are correct. I was very asleep and didn't take a good look. I ordered this one then as that's actually a really good price overall. Now do I need a clockspring to or no. Some have said the clockspring has the connector on it.

 

LOL......You need to look at the pins on the clockspring to see if they are there. Been my experience that it's hit or miss on how they equip it. Once you have everything plugged in then you just need it enabled, easy enough with a StarScan or AlfaOBD.
