4 wheel drive not working
Ok so if this is already posted I appologize. I just bought a 2008 ram 1500. We got snow a few days ago and I had to go into 4x4 to get into my driveway. I put it in neutral and turned the selector switch to 4 wheel hi (I also tried 4 lo). I heard the actuator, but the light stayed blinking and it never engaged. Needless to say I got stuck. It's out now but nothing I can do will make this thing work. I have checked fuses, I checked the connection. Please tell me someone can point my wrench in the right direction. I can repair just about anything so I don't want to pay a dealer to change something I can do. Thank you in advance for any help or hints. Also is there a way I can just manually lock it into 4 hi and leave it? This snow isn't leaving for a bit. Thanks again!
Any codes? Remember they only show in standby/ACC unless its emissions. I looked at the repair manual for 2006 (close enough) and I noticed something interesting.
• To select or deselect 2WD, AWD or 4HI mode, vehicle speed must be below 88 Kmh (55 mph) with all wheels
at vehicle speed.
• Shifts will not take place with a wheel speed difference of greater than 21 Kmh (13 mph) between the front
and rear wheels.
This should apply to the truck so see if any codes relating to wheel speed are also present just as a sanity check. Try moving ever so slightly with in netural (coasting) as sometimes it might just be a mismatch of components or binding slightly i've had this help with my jeep when i had it and in my dodge as well at times. However it might be the arm is binding (i thought these were direct motor shift and not a motor moving an eternal arm tho?).
