One thing about the Cummins. It was designed to be rebuilt. A guy I used to work with was a trained Cummins mechanic and he mentioned that he had rebuilt several in long nosed tractors while the block was in the truck. Cab overs were problematic, but the open nose with a dog house was easy. He made more money driving a lift truck and got better benefits.

I had to put valves in a 11 Ford Escape couple weeks ago….the Cummins was 10000000x easier to tear down

Well, spent the money, got the truck back. Made it 10 miles on the new motor before the fuel pump (not replaced) came apart in 2 halves. Towed back to shop, new fuel pump installed. Was in a pinch when I got the truck back and had to drive 300 miles to Elko. Made it 270 miles almost to Carlin before CEL made my night. Also, new belt is shredding off 1/4 wide strings. OBDII sensor is saying it is some kind of group 2 fuel injector electrical issue. Clear the CEL and it doesn't come back. Buy a new belt (and 1/2" drive) but not going to replace it unless I have to. Don't want to touch anything unless necessary because I'm sure the shop will try and blame me.
Had to drive home, made it 150 miles to Imlay when the CEL comes back on. Man, I am just fit to be tied.

I always like to drive out anything that's had a lot of work done before I take it on long drives.

Yes, and with OEM injectors. The CEL cleared on it's own this time....and it's been good for 30 miles now.

Cannot disagree with that logic, however I didn't have much choice this time. Although, some piece of mind knowing the shop's insurance would be paying my tow bill should catastrophe befall.
