Default How to remove factory pin stripe??

I have that silvery/pearl color dual line pin stripe on my ram (the one that has the rams head logo around the main doors and ends in DODGE at the taillights) and I want to get rid of it. It's in horrible shape; its cracking peeling and just looks bad in general.

On inspecting this stripe and seeing if there was a usable "edge" I could peel up to work with using a heat gun I found nothing...just the end of the stripe cracking/crumbling away.

Is there a specific way to remove this stripe? Are there non abrasive chemicals made to remove a stripe like this? And, once it's off finally, what would you recommend to recondition the paint under the stripe? I just had the truck detailed like 3 weeks ago (full wax/buff job) so the paint is close to showroom finish again.

Thanks guys!

I think the best thing for you to do is to find a high quality body shop to do the work, they will have the chemicals to remove the stripe without damaging the paint. They will also have to compound the paint and re buff as the paint under the stripe will be a slightly different color due to it being shielded from uv rays of the sun.I am no pro on body work,i am afraid i would do more damage than good,so it would be best to let a pro do it,in my case at least!

I have just removed my pin stripe like maybe 2 hours ago. The way I did it was I used a heat gun, held it about 5-6 inches away from the stripe to warm the whole thing up, make sure it is kinda warm or it will keep breaking on you. I warmed the whole thing up then took the heat away and I used a drivers license to pull the pin stripe on the one end and then just very slowly I pulled it off. and yes it will need to be cleaned up but I think if you just hand wax it that you will be able to get rid of the difference, becasue I have an 02' and there really isnt much of a difference in the colors.
