ECM troubleshooting / Not shifting out of 2nd for a year
05 4.7 hasn't shifted out of 2nd in a year. I drive it everywhere in 1st & 2nd gear. I replaced all the sensors & solenoid. Been trying to save $ for full transmission & engine swap. It has high miles but then Someone suggested I may have a bad ecm. Before I buy a replacement ecm is there a simple way I know for sure the ecm is the issue?
Hello, yes I have the codes, all I have are p0700, p0406 , then also p0733 and p0734. I'm pretty sure these other codes are downstream issues caused by the transmission issue.
Ah no. They are the issue lol.
P0700 - generic trans fault, always accompanied by at least one more code
P0406 - EGR code; unrelated to trans
P0733 - 3rd gear incorrect ratio
P0734 - 4th gear incorrect ratio
If you have these two, you should also have P0735. Regardless, those last two codes are the RFE kiss of death. Usually means the OD clutches are shot and spreads to 3rd gear. Happened with my 03 hemi a few times. The last one dropped 4th & 5th, then spread to 3rd; nothing like having to drive 90 miles home in 2nd gear with 4.56's lol. Rebuild/replace.
