Default Did I install my recirc door correctly?

I replaced the recirculation door on my 2003 1500 4.7 Ram. Does anyone know how to tell if it is operating properly?

When the fan is in the off position the door is flush against the opening on the firewall side of the vent. When I turn on the fan, the recirc door moves to the passenger side of the vent. When I put the vent selection dial on the AC setting and press the AC button the door moves back to the firewall side of the vent. I looked online to see if I could find an explanation as to how the door should operate but got confused when the descriptions used open and closed without explaining the actual position of the door. Does recirc mean that the door is against the firewall opening? Which position is for heat and which for cooling? Thanks.

Are you talking about the recirc door (directly above the fan motor) or the blend door? Kinda sounds like you might be talking about the blend door....

I am referring to the recirc door above the fan and behind the glove compartment and passenger airbag. It seems to be working but I want to be sure of the proper operation before reassembling the radio amplifier (was a pain to get out) and the front parts of the dash. Thanks.

Ok. I usually explain it this way: if it's working properly, recirc will have it against the firewall, covering the mesh opening; non-recirc will uncover that and you can see the mesh in the opening. That's how I knew mine was good after I replaced it.

Thanks for the reply. So then there is no in-between for the recirc door? It is either recirc or non-recirc. i.e The recirc door does not function to mix outside and inside air.

Correct, it's an either/or. Not like the blend door, which varies for temperature.
