Default How do I run the amp wire from my battery to amp

Just found out the install date where I bought all my stuff at is Febuary 3rd - bump that -

Need some advice on wiring - where should I run and hide the wire for my amp - do I need to drill a hole through the body to get batter wire in the truck

do they make a harness for aftermarket head unit to the factory amp - i have the 7 speaker infiniti package

Thanks Fellas - going out of town on weds and really want to watch some dvds on the trip -

as far as running the wire, just unscrew the step panels and lift up the rug to hide the wire under there, and cut a small hole for where it starts near the amp. there should already be a little hole up by the brake peddle that has rubber gromet in it. you can run the wire through there to your battery. you shouldnt be drilling any holes in the body!!

What ross said is right. if you get down on the floor by the peddles there is rubber stopper in a hole. Just take that out and poke a hole through it with a knife or soemthing like that just so the wire fits through it and then when you have the wire through I would take some like silicone or even that liquid electrical tape and cover up around where you put the wire through. and run i tin thye cab just like ross said, pull up the door sill and run it right along there and then put the door sill back down. And yes there is a wire harness you can buy that will hook right up to your factory plugs and allow you to hook up an aftermarket stereo. and than that after market stereo you will need to run RCA cables back to the amp. but DO NOT run the RCA on the same side as the battery cable, if you do this you will have engine noise through your speaker. you can run remote turn on wire on the same side as the battery cable though.

if you wanna use your factory head unit, they sell a wire that will splice into your speaker wire and turn them into RCA's

Why not? I do it all the time. Sometimes there just isn't a factory grommet to use. Especially when you're running 1/0. You just have to use an aftermarket grommet.

That is a big misconception. 90% of engine noise comes from ground loops. I've tied interconnects right to power wire before and not had a problem. One of the biggest ways to avoid engine noise is to isolate the amp chassis from the truck chassis. In other words, don't screw stright to metal. Mount the amp on a piece of wood and mount the wood to the car. Also, some "higher end" RCA's can actually induce noise. I replaced all my cheaper RCA's with high end pieces(a 2M pair were $100) and ran them in the same location and had noise that wasn't there before. Also, make sure the amp grounds sre good. Run the ground to a decent bolt. Don't use a 1/2" stinger into sheet metal and run a piece of 4 gauge off it.

Another way you can have engine noise is through passive crossovers. If you have component speakers, make sure the x-overs are installed away from major power sources such as the blower motor.

You can splice RCA's into an OE headunit if the amp accepts a high level input through the RCA's. If it doesn't, you might fry the amp.
