Default 2005 transmission shifts and rpm

Recently picked up a 2005 1500 4x4 w230k miles. Drove it home about 30 miles, about 20 of them highway at about 65-75 and the noise was really loud. This is my 5th Dodge from 94's - 21's, but this on is by far the loudest. The tailpipe is cut after the muffler, but it sounds more like engine noise rather than exhaust. It almost sounds like an older carburetor motor with no air filter. Doesn't knock, rattle, vibrate or anything else weird, but just seems really loud.
I got to thinking maybe it wasn't shifting through the gears and stuck in the wrong gear and causing the RPMs to be too high.
Anyone have any info on number of speeds and what final RPMs should be, everything is stock.

Which engine? Does it have the OEM air cleaner, or an aftermarket open cone? If its a 5.7, it'll have a 5 speed trans. You can pop your vin into the fca site below and find out what options yours had new. 3.92 ratio with 17s would make the rpms higher, if they're 20s - not so much.

What RPM did it sit at when doing 75 mph?
