Hi everyone.

I recently purchased a 2002 ram 1500 SLT 4.7 auto from the original owner. Its has 75000 miles on it and overall is in pretty good shape. For its first drive, I drove it 100 miles with a trailer and experienced no issues. However, on the way home, I backed down a friends driveway to pick up a tool box and when I went to leave my truck threw the following codes:

P0988
P0871
P0846

When this happened, the truck seemed to not want to go into first or second gear, so was sluggish off the line when in D. When manually putting it into first on the column, the truck would in fact go into first and then second gear. During this time, I noted no slipping of the trans, just a slow start because of it not going into those lower gears.

After leaving it overnight, I cleared the codes and drove the truck again and it was driving normally.

Guy I got it from said tough luck, so I am here to fix it. Any advice on where to start?

Update: I drove the truck more and experienced the same transmission issues. This time the code was P0888. I also hear a buzzing in the transmission when in park.
