No, no codes. The transmission is shifting fine otherwise. I think HeyYou may be on to something. The greater the load (higher gear) the more pronounced the stutter. It isn't a violent stutter or hiccups, but just enough to let you know it's there. Additionally, it's worst if I'm pulling a hill. The RPMs don't race as it stutters, and that is why I think HeyYou may be on to something. What I thought was the transmission may actually be the engine misfiring. The only mystery is why it wouldn't trigger a code. Fuel mileage is in the gutter. Somewhere around 9 mpg. I gapped the plugs at 45 and the coils all seem to be firing okay. Just at a loss.
My fuel pressure is at 48 psi at idle. Thats what Chrysler calls for on the '03 1500 5.7s. However, I'm not sure if it would create a problem if I used an '05 Durango 5.7. I used the fuel injectors from the '05 and ha e new ones. All the auto parts stores say I can use multiple years of injctors on the '03. If the fuel pressure is different wouldn't the injector need to be different as well? I am putting on replacement injectors today with new coils. Let's see what that does. Just tired of throwing money at it with little or no results.
If you have the coils off I would check some plugs. The 05 Durango engine is fine other than it would have MDS. It should operate normally though without it connected.

I fixed the issue and had a hard learning experience in the process. The problem was the injectors were bad. I learned the hard way just why you do t buy cheap injectors. One of the injector o-rings had a chunk missing that was small enough I missed it. It caused a HUGE fuel leak and lowered the pressure enough the pcm tried to compensate with more spark. As I had the resonator off, when the engine backfired it also caught the puddles of fuel on fire. Yup, engine fire that cascaded down the back of the block, along the transmission and on the ground. After dumping an entire fire extinguisher on the engine (thankfully I'd shut it off before the hosing) I pulled the now crispy cheapo injectors and replaced them with some more expensive ones. The truck starts with no problems and the "hiccups" between 1500 and 1800 rpms was gone. I eas lucky in that all I had to replace was a couple electrical plugs that seemed a bit melted. The harness seems fine. So, for those of you who are trying to get your ram going allow my mistake to teach you the hard lesson: DONT BUY CHEAP PARTS. Spend the money to do it right. To those of you who responded to my posts, thank you. You helped keep me from pulling my hair out. You guys really know your stuff. And for HeyYou: You're awesome. I hope you continue to help people like me. You've been a valuable resource and a wealth of knowledge. A HUGE thank you to you.
Have you check fuel pressure too? Should be 58 + - 4 PSI. Replace the spark plugs too with Factory champion plugs.
Incorrect. 2003 hemi (2003 everything) typically runs 48 psi fuel pressure (specifically 49.2 ± 2). 2004+ run the higher pressure. This is why the injectors are different (as well as fuel pump).

So far the engine i took out of the '05 Durango runs good with the '03 injectors and pump. Is this something thats going to come back to haunt me? I figured the '05 5.7 was the same as the '03 and could use the injectors and fuel pump in the '03 truck to power it. Just dont want something catastrophic happening later.
