How much did the dealer charge for the heater core? Did you pay List price for it? Keep us posted on the repair.

I will Not let the Dealer service my Heater Core!!

I will be takling it myself sometime in the near future!

I called my dealer yesterday to find out about purchasing a factory Service manual on the truck!

They tell me we do NOT sell them, and you cant buy 1!!!

Anyone else heard of this??
I've always bought Factory Repair manuals from "Other brand"dealers!!

Paper bound service manuals do not exsist anyone (to my knowledge). Dealers use manuals on CD only. I went to www.hemitruckclub.com and downloaded a manual, like a lot of other guys on this forum..... Back to my last post. I was asking how much the dealer charged you for the part, because I knew already that you were going to attempt to fix it yourself. good luck!

Dealers still have paper manuals, but it is cheaper to access www.dealerconnect.com so most dealers dont want to pay for something they get free. Also if your heater core is leaking at a young age, the condition may be caused by contamination in the cooling system, I have seen it before and said to say I replaced the heater core on one 3 times before we had the coolant sent out for testing. Have you been taking the truck for maintance to some where other then the dealer?

Yo Steeringcolumn and motorhead426, the paper manuals do exist.
I purchased a full set on e-bay from a great guy in Arizona called Bill.
A real steal I can tell you. He even threw in seperate Bodywork and transmission service manuals free of charge as a thank you.
I couldn't be more pleased, as these will really help me here in the UK, where Dodge service centers are thin on the ground.
So............keep looking for a set to help you with your heater core.
As stated earlier, you can download the manuals on a "well known" web site.
Do a search for somthing along the lines of Hemi..............truck.................Cl*b
Your sure to find what you want there.

Well after reading a bit in the service manual; Thanks for that Link!!

It say's to Recover/evacuate the A/C system!!!

Then you remove the dash and the HVAC Box as an assembly,Place it on the bench and Then you can remove the heater Core!!

Needless to say,I'M STUCK @ this point!!
I have No way to Recover the A/C!

Lookin more and more like I may have to trade her in!!

I REFUSE to pay $600 labor to have this done on a 3 year old Truck!

Call up a local shop, find out how much to vac test and charge your AC. Probably only $150 or so. The new refridgerants are not harmful to the environment, so releases to atmosphere the EPA doesn't care about, these days a shop is even allowed to charge an AC system with a known slow leak and let it go down the road, as long as it's a R134a system, that isn't allowed with R12 of course.

I just picked up my truck from the dealer on Monday. 2003 Ram 4.7 Quad Cab 4x4. I started smelling coolant when the defrost was turned on. From there it went down hill. Started fogging up the windows and such. brought mine to the dealer and was quoted $680 also. The service manager got them to cover it under customer satisfaction warranty. All I had to pay was $100 deductable! The good news is that I talked to the tech that fixed it. He said that he had the job done in a little over 2 hours. Yes he had to evacuate the AC, but he said that was the worst part of it. Half the stuff they tell you to remove-he left in. I saw it myself, he had the passenger side of the dash tied up with mechanic's wire to the seatbelt bracket on the pillar between the doors.
