Default '02 RAM 1500 4x4 Slt quad cab 46RE slipping

Hey all,

Sorry if posting too much again *laughs*

Question is about the auto trans (46RE), my mechanic and I replaced it with junk yard one when bought truck in nov '22... swapped trans fluid, filter in summer '23.

Fluid is very bubbly and has lots of air in it. Eng has to rev to close to 2k before 1st engages to pick up any decent speed from a dead stop (at a red light etc)

any suggestions? Fluid isn't dirty. Still very red. Havnt physically shifted into 1 or 2nd to try yet but will and report back.

have a basic scanner and no eng codes thrown for that, that I saw but again will recheck all that.

Also truck now has 264K on it. When it got it, it had about 209k i believe and changed trans fluid about 235k roughly.

thanks

Joker

Before anyone posts: the CEL code that came up is P1763 which i have found out can be thrown due to O2 B1 S1 internal short cause the trans governor shares same voltage as O2 sensor.

Found this post on the forum about the issue and how to check and or test it.

Sounds like second gear starts. Replace the 46re governor pressure solenoid and consider a slip in front band. The band requires dropping the valve body out, but it's only about a two hour job even on your back in the driveway.

Hey,

Thanks for letting me know. I did clear the code and hadn't come back yet. Even the O2 sensor and evap codes havnt come back.

That govenor solenoid cause the fluid to become airated and bubbly tho?

I will keep that in mind tho.

I have never had to replace a front band in a transmission. That would deff be interesting to youtube.

Thanks again

Joker
