Royal Purple Oil Change?
Hello all,
I own a 03 Ram 1500 with 19K miles on it. I just changed my oil to using Royal Purple.
I normaly change oil at 3k when I wasnt using Royal Purple. This oil cost 6 bucks a quart.
Would it be ok if I changed the oil at 5k intervals? I am also using the DG Fram oil filter. Would this filter hold out for a 5K oil change.
Thanks

I know a guy that uses Royal Purple. Instead of changing it every 3000 miles he just takes a sample in to his buddy at a lab. They analyze it to determine if it needs to be changed. He says he has gone over 10000 miles between oil changes but typically changes it at 6000.
I don't expect most people to have the means to analyze their oil on a regular basis but i would feel safe enough running Purple for 6000 miles.
I'm making the switch as well on my next change. The new motor has less than 10000 miles on it and i was told it was best to run regular oil for a while before switching.
Good luck

$6 bucks a quart...................Mobile #1 in the UK costs approx $68 for 5 litres in the UK.
Change it when you need to, at those prices in the US...........
They don't call it "rip off Britain" for nothing here [:@].

The oil may last the 6k, but get away from the Fram filter if you can. There have been a ton of threads, all negative, about tests on the Fram. If you do a search on here, you'll find them with links to the tests. The best tested were Mobil 1, Wix and NAPA Gold, with a few others as "acceptable".
You'd hate to spend that kind of money on the oil, then have crap for a filter.

I agree Mill,I worked repairing heavy equipment.all we used was Wix,I think they are the best in the business! Cut a Wix apart and do a fram or any other brand and you will see why Wix is a superior filter.
