First Mods of new pickup?
I've got the catback flowmaster off my old chev sold and got 350.00 to put into my truck.
Exhaust-Take off resonator and leave factory muffler?
-Replace factory muffler and leave resonator?
Intake - Whats best air flow for least money?
I like mild proformance increase and a sound that can be conservative when being driven that way but HOWLER AND TURN HEADS at WOT!

I'm pretty much in the same boat. Yesterday I bought a left-over '05 Ram 1500 QC Hemi to replace my old '93 Lightning as a winter driver. The dealer had already done a few mods that I would have likely done anyway: 2/3 lower, 22" wheels, Borla cat-back w/side exit, and a few other little things.
The problem is, the old 200,000 mile Lightning will still spank the new Dodge. Sure, it's sort of unfair to compare the two since the Dodge is sooooo much hevier, but considering it cost about 6 times what the L is worth it's still a little disapointing.
So I too am wondering what the best bang for the buck is for simple bolt-on's. I'm thinking of a K&N, either a drop filter or complete CAI kit, plus maybe underdrive pullies, an electric fan, and a chip.
Since this is my first Dodge I'm pretty green here. Anybody have some recomendation for upgrades or specific products that work well with the Hemi?
And btw, does anybody else grimace every time you have to tell somebody what motor you have? While I was looking for the truck I got to the point where I didn't want to even say the work 'hemi'. Seems like it brings out the redneck in everybody who uses it! I can't wait for the 'that thing gotta hemi?' jokes when I get to work tomorrow.

now that's not fair you are compairing ford's top of the line truck to dodge's middle of the road truck if you got top of the line to top of the line who win's? think about that. the same with chevy, the "silverado ss" it is chevy's top truck but it is just slighty faster than dodge's middel truck.
The Lightning was top of the line in it's day, but remember we're talking about a gen 1 lightning. It's 13 years old with a couple hundred thousand miles on it. I know this isn't a Ford place and a lot of people, even truck guys, don't seem to remember the first gen L's. These were running 351Ws, not the blown overhead cam motors from the Gen 2 trucks. After the gen 1 Lightning, the gen 2 was king until the SRT10 came along to take the throne. (and not to stir up a lot of trouble on a Dodge board, but even with 500 inches the SRT needs to stay on it's toes to keep ahead of a Gen2 L. GM never even came to the table....what did they have?...the 454SS and the new 6.0SS? Not even close from what I've seen.)
But hey, the L's only came as short bed regular cabs. I needed a 4-door and the current F150 is such a dog I had to jump ship and buy my first non-Ford truck.
There's not a big difference right now. Maybe 1/4-1/2 sec. I'm hoping that with a couple more simple mods like I asked about and a little break-in mileage I can close the gap or even get the Dodge out in front.
One thing's for sure - it's a heck of a lot nicer ride than a 3 generation old F150 even if it was the top of the line back in it's day.
So point me in the right direction here...anybody have some favorite bolt-ons to suggest for the Ram?

I figure the resonator with a flowmaster will sound good but without the drone in the cab. Does your truck give a quick rumble when you first start it with the resonator on?

Yea it does. The reason for the resonator was I didn't want it to be so loud as it is my daily. The resonator keeps the level down a bit. At start up, it gives a good note when the starter kicks in and the motor spins to ~2K. When it settles down to idle it is a fairly stock tone. But, give it the gas and you know it's not the stock exhaust.
