Light Squealing Noise
Hey guy,
Recently I have noticed an intermitent, light squealing noise coming from my truck. It seems to be coming from the passenger side. It sounds alot like the squealing you get when the brakes are wearing out, but it has been making this sound when I am braking and also when I am not braking but just cruising along. Any ideas on what to check so I can stop it?

Well the "sensor" on disc-brakes is just a metal tab that protrudes out and hits the disc when the brake pads wear down too much...how many miles do you have? The sensor will squeal all the time once they wear down too far...if you have 4-wheel disc (i assume you do) you can take the wheel and tire off and can check the pads from there...check the brake fluid as well...if its low refill it then see if that helps...usually disc brake jobs are easy to do yourself, and expensive to have someone else do it...if the squeal is coming from 1 side only it could be a bad caliper/piston...hope this helps...
Well my Ram has 29,700 miles on it. I've only owned it for 2 weeks, but I doubt it has ever had a brake job. I've never had the squeally bars on my brakes squeal when I wasn't hitting the brakes. That is why I was curious if it could have been something else possibly Ram specific. I plan on checking them tomorrow. I do all of my own maintenance and disc brakes are easy so it shouldn't take long. I guess maybe I have never heard them squeal when not braking because I've never let my vehicles go very far when they need servicing. If it is a bad calipher/piston it would be good to catch it now while it is still under warranty.
