My friend has an '02 Ram Lone Star Edition with 102K miles and a 5.9ltr magnum. He recently took it to the dealership and had the injectors cleaned because of a check engine light and after the cleaning 4 of the 8 cylinders weren't firing correctly. The dealer said he needed to replace the heads and catalytic conv. for $2-3K. What do you guys recommend? I said that he would be better off putting a new or rebuilt engine in the truck for the same or less $. Will a hemi fit that auto trans in the magnum 5.9? What is the most cost effictive solution and does anybody know of a place to buy a rebuilt engine and/or have it installed near Dallas, TX? What should all this cost? Thanks[:'(] Also, he had an extended warranty throught Dodge to 100k, is there any chance Dodge will cover this?
Hey! I'm in Kaufman (east of Dallas). Which dealership told him this? Was it acting up before the "cleaning" of after? Why are they telling him this specifically? I despise stealerships and take little stock of their "service" departments. He needs to get a 2nd and 3rd opinion. Good luck finding a decent mechanic in Dallas. The only good mechainc I know is Greens Automotive in Terrell, TX but they might be a little far out for y'all. Stay away from Randall Noe. They are pure crooks!!!
Getting Dodge to extend their extended warranty another 2k miles is going to be a slim to none chance - especialy after needing that much work. Can he just trade up to an '06? Acording to the Dodge website, if the dealership will combine the purchase and lease money like they did on mine, he could get a discount of $8k on a new truck. As much as I HATE Randal Noe, they have really good prices on their trucks and they were the ones who combined the money for me knocking off over 10k on my truck. Go in to buy a truck then lease it. Get your payoff and as soon as the paperwork comes back, refinance it at a credit union and get out of the lease. With the miles he puts on a truck, it would eat him alive!!
