So I have an '06 1500 Hemi. I've been looking at adding a winch but I'm having a hard time finding good info on these things. It would be nice to get one of those warn hidden winches that mount behind the bumper (because they're cheaper too) so I can keep the form factor of my truck. But there's little info about that winch (or hidden winches in general) especially when it comes to what kind will work with my truck (warn has one that's listed up to the '04 1500).

I've also been looking at getting a road armor type bumper and then putting a winch in that, though that would probably be way more $$ than I want to spend on this. Does anyone here have any experience/advice about either kind of winch?

 

I've been seriously looking into the hidden winch idea also. I have not seen an actual truck with one, unless you count a power wagon, but then again, thats a different frame all together. I'm leaning towards making my own mount, so that I can use any winch I choose. I'm one of those that goes over kill, so I'll probably go with a Warn 12,000 or larger. I was looking into it, and Warn winches all have the same bolt patterns, so your only other factor that you may have to consider from winch to winch is the over all height of the winch. It can't be too difficult to make a mount if you have access to a welder (which I do). I made my own front hitch which was easy. It only took a day to do. Keep us posted on what you plan to do. I don't plan on getting a winch until I come up with some extra cash for beefier tires. hahaha.

 

Yea, I called the dealer up and asked about the winch that goes into the powerwagon. They said that monkeys would have to fly outa my butt before I could order that thing and have it work with my 1500 since the frames a different.

 

I was also interested in installing a winch on my '06 1500 Hemi. I had a front mounted hitch on my last dodge truck and it worked great. It allowed me to add or remove the winch when needed there were other accessories available for it as well. When I read 2006 owners manual on page377 it stated that winch's and other front mounted accessories are not recommended. I took this a step further and talked to my service department and Dodge customer service only to find no support. They just kept stating that I would void the warranty if I made any modifications. in the shop i work at we deal in all warn acceeries and were a warn autherised repair center as well and im the guy who duz the repairs lol. warn hasent come out with a hiden winch mount yet for the 06's (that i know of) i would look into the warn trans4mer its like a bush guard but its made for a winch. on the subgect of mouting front reciver hitches voiding the watenty i havent herd anything abiut it i have instaled hatches on the front od then for winches with no problems the only thing is that warn only makes basket winches upto 9000 lbs i would recomend nouthing smaller than an M12000 (12000 lb) but id honestley go with the M15000 (15000 lbs)
