Default Second Try - Are Any of You Daytona Owners Experiencing Exhaust Drone?

In the event my dealer has no more Daytona Quad Cabs on the lot for me to hear for myself, are any Daytona owners out there experiencing a drone/resonance with your Borla exhaust, specifically in the 2000RPM range? I've been battling resonance/drone with my Mopar/Borla cat-back system in my '05 1500 Hemi QC. I'm currently at the point, thanks to Borla's willingness to help me out, where I have the same exact exhaust system as the Daytona exhaust system (I now have the same muffler as youse Daytona guys/gals). I still have the drone/resonance at 2000RPM, it's a little more suppressed then before, but it's still quite noticeable. Do you have this problem?

No drone here........ infact I have had the truck since June and now with 6100mi NOT ONE PROBLEM, (knock, knock) Only mod is S/C 3815. It's prob the ONLY mod out there worth the $$$. Was thinking about long tube headers, but for the cost and what ill gain, NOT WORTH IT, and im also going by some posts with (some) who added their headers and have had lites on dash come on. Im not looking to PAY for a problem. For me I couldnt ask for a better truck !!! Luv it just the way it is !!!!!!!!

It is HORRIBLE at 2000 RPM while cruising. I currently have about 2500 miles on it. Other than that I like it a lot. Check out the resonator at www.aero-turbine.com. That is what I am having installed just ahead of the muffler.

I don't have a Borla, but most performance systems (with the resonator removed and larger pipe) are going to give off a resonance in the cab. I have Flowmasters (granted they are 40 Series) but I'd guarantee the interior resonance is worse than your Borla. The interior of my truck will rattle between 2500-4500 RPM's, depending how hard I'm on it. If you are looking for something quiet, Magnaflow is probably the way to go. There are a lot of posts on here with the specific model number that is quiet. I know you probably don't want to pay for it, but I think it is to be expected whenever aftermarket modifications are involved. Or maybe you should go back to the stock exhaust?

Here is a suggestion that might help. I have never experienced the drone you speak of, but I would lay odds that it is probably due to harmonics of sound in the exhaust system. Try getting the exhaust wrap for headers, and wrap the pipe from the catalytic converter back to just in front of the outlet point. It won't stop the harmonics, but it will absorbe the resonance emminating from the metal pipe.

Just a suggestion

Here is another suggestion for xJO98 - if the resonance in the cab is such a huge annoyance, take it back to stock. I dunno, but complaining about how an aftermarket part changed the sound/performace of your truck (something which you knowingly purchased) amazes me. It's like buying a lifted truck and complaining the ride is too harsh and the tires make too much noise on the freeway. In this example, would anyone expect the dealer to change the tires so it was quieter? I wouldn't count on it.

Now, if you had a stock exhaust and it was doing this, then yeah, I'd agree with you. But exhaust are supposed to change the sound of the truck, some have more interior resonance than others. Sometimes they are annoying. But hey, we all had our chance to say "no" to it. My opinion - take it back to stock or live with the fact your truck is loud.

All I asked was for some comparison data from actual Daytona owners to make sure that I didn't actually have a separate problem with my truck that the exhaust is making worse. Believe me the thought has crossed my mind to take it back to stock, the stock exhaust is sitting in my shed. And I do know that an aftermarket exhaust changes the sound/performance, I'm not stupid. I had a custom cat-back exhaust with a Flowmaster Delta 50 on my Jeep Cherokee a few years back and that thing was loud and it droned like a bitch, it sounded like pure hell at most speeds and startup sounded like crap too. Did I complain to Rusty's Off Road about it, no, I bought without researching. I put BFG AT tires on and they were pretty loud on the highway, did I go back to Town Fair Tire to complain, no because I knew they would be louder. I almost put a 3" lift on it too and I knew it would ride harder but I didn't because of it. I did, however, felt I asked the right questions of my dealer's parts department when I started this whole thing of going with the Mopar Borla system on my truck. On more than one occasion I specifically asked about cabin noise and drone. I was told there was none, you would only notice the exhaust when mashed the gas pedal, a nice throaty sound. I said cool, that's what I want, I want some V8 grumble that isn't overbearing like dual Flowmaster 40s would be but my Hemi would sound like it should at WOT. I was very sensitive to the drone syndrome because of my Jeep. They told me no problem so I went for it. Well, let the drone begin and continue. In my case anyways, it's not so much that's it loud in my cabin as it is this annoying sound that's not at all throaty and I can literally feel the vibrations in my floorboard. My dealer has heard it, an owner of an exhaust shop heard it and everyone scratches their heads going huh, that is annoying, I see what you mean but no foolproof fix. Borla did by me well I think by sending me a different muffler to try, the one used on the Daytona Hemi, for free.

I'm getting used to the drone but I just want to make sure at this point I don't have a different exhaust problem since at the start of this project, my truck threw a catalyst efficiency code and the dealer replaced the downstream O2 sensor and flashed the computer per TSB 18-028-05.

sspp, let me know how the AeroTurbine resonator works out for you. Borla felt that a resonator or bullet muffler in front of this muffler wouldn't make a difference but I have read where others have used the AT and have had success.

My Daytona QC does drone a bit around 2-3000 rpm. If I'm just on a light throttle and cruising aroung 70-80mph it's fine (ish!) but if I have to give it just a bit of gas for an up grade or to overtake it is pretty intrusive. I don't think my CAI helps much but it's def the exhaust too. It is NOTHING near as bad as my K% Blazer with a Borla Sportsman muffler. Now that REALLY drones!!

When the rpms are up around 2200 you can hear it in the cab. It's not as bad as the borla that my mom has on her '98 318, or my Jeep's. It all comes down to your definition of loud though.

LOL

People complaining about extra noise from their exhaust. I've been dreaming about making my truck louder, and so far all I have been able to afford is some of my spare time to remove pipe and resonator... Please, feel free to take my resonator if you want your truck quieter... All I ask is you donate a loudass muffler to me in return.
