crazy theft story!!!
I woke up one morning this week and found a new Dodge Ram (minus wheels) sitting on blocks in my drive way.....needless to say i was suprised and called the police. The thieves took nothing but the wheels! they left everything in the cab, and under the bed cover alone. They even left the rear end jacked up, lol. The officer who came and filed the report said that this sort of thing was getting pretty common in Texas (I'm in Carrollton). So apparently thieves are really after our Dodge Wheels.
Anyone know of a way to lock your wheels on? or some other way to prevent them from getting stolen? My dad said that they used to make a locking lug nut, do they still have those, and would that work?
Just be careful out there guys, specially in Texas, or other border states.
Peace

They still do make locking lug nuts and they work pretty well. I am curious as to what kind of rims they were, I know that you said they were Dodge but... the new sport five spoke, srt-10?
I dont know what type they were actually, cause i only saw the Ram on blocks, the officer just said that these type of wheels are very popular and the most stollen type. I'm worried because I have really nice wheels on my truck, and I will definately be looking into a car alarm, and locking lug nutz....guess my new exhaust will have to wait
I picked up some wheel lug locks from the dealer for $38. I don't normally buy things from the dealer, but the slot the "key" goes into is deeper than those I've used in the past. Just be careful if you plan to have some wheel/tire work done. These places like to use an impact wrench to take off the locking lugs which has destroyed mine in the past. It's cheap insurance IMHO.
If these guy's want your wheels, there going to get them. You could post a pit bull on your vehicle and it wouldn't make a diference. Wheel locks and alarms are a good idea, but a lot of these a__holes will vandalize your truck if they can't get what they want. A good thing about Texas, if you catch the jerks on your property after dark steeling you can shoot them.
Watch Ebay in the next week for a set of wheels in your area. I have a feeling many sets make it to Ebay. For those that have a high chance of wheels getting stolen. Mark the inside in someway. Etch into the rim something to identify them. Then take a picture of it, best if the picture has a date on it. If they ever get stolen, and you happen to see them on Ebay, you can get them back.
One extra thing you can do if you have an alarm system. Get some mercury switches. Take your truck in to a place that specializes in customing cars and trucks and have them install mercury switches that will cause your alarm to go off if the truck is raised past a vertain degree. Make sure to get ones for front and back as well as left to right lifting. Of course this won't work unless you park your truck on a flat surface. If you park on a hill or incline then your system will fault the mercury switches when you arm them and won't go off if the angle is changed since they are already engaged and the alarm system will ignore them.

Thanks for the advice, that sounds farely expesive. I think ill just start off with a regular alarm system. Any suggestions on good alarm system brands?
that...and invest in a gun, lol

My friend installed the LoJack system in his Ram. It was really expensive $900 and some change. But worth it in my opinion. If the truck is stolen the police can track it and recover it. It also tells him on his key fob if the truck has moved more than five feet. Oh, that and he bought a new 9mm.
By the way, I'm thinking about getting the locking lug nuts for my Ram....anyone know the thread size? They come in two different sizes and the owners manual doesn't have the size.

LoJack is a waste of money for the simple reason: if someone stole your truck, would you really want it back? I don't care if they only drove it 100 miles, I'd take the insurance money and get a new one. Just my opinion.
