Default 285/70R/17 on 17X8 rim???

I'm picking up some Toyo Open Country AT's 285/70R/17 to mount on the 17X8 OEM rim pictured below. Before dropping close to $700 on the tires, I want to be positive that the rim width is capable on the rim below....

The combo should look sweet, I will be mounting the Toyo tire in the top pic on the OEM in the bottom pic. Thanks to any with answers!

Im sure that a wider rim is recommended, but Im sure the tires will fit on the rim. I had 285/75/16 on stock ford rims on my 97 f150. The tires will look a little bulgy and the tread may not meet the pavement completely flat.

I've been told by several that they will fit with no problems.. I'm waiting on a call or email from Toyo to rule out any doubts though. I went ahead and ordered the tires. Should have them at my doorstep early next week. IshouldaGOTtheHEMI, I'll post pics when I get them mounted and installed for reference if you still plan on going this route...

I have the exact same rims as you. My tire guy told me I could go as big as the 285/70-R17's on it. Have fun dude. Those are some sweet looking tires.

Toyo's reply to my question was: "For the Open Country A/T size LT285/70R17, the approved rim width range
is 7.5"-9.0".

So it's just a sit and wait thing for the tires to arrive now! Should possibly be here tomorrow, Wed at the latest. I feel like a teenage boy on prom night with all of the anticipation!!![sm=bomb.gif]

If I'm ever in doubt, I just look on 4wheelparts website and check out some tire and wheel packages. They sell packages on 8" wide rims with tires up to 12.5" wide. I've also seen many 305/70R17 tires mounted on stock 17x8 rims. Looks good to me. I plan to run some 305/70R17 MT/R Goodyears in the spring..... but I'd rather get some 18" rims. Let us know how you like your new tires when you get them.

Thx Motorhead. The tires came in today. I'll probably get them mounted at TireDiscounters tomorrow and on my truck. I'll post pics. I have a choice to make first though. Raised Whites or Blacks?

Any pics of these installed with white lettering?? A good problem to have I guess.
