Dual Exhaust Ques.
I currently have Dual Exhaust on my ram (4.7 liter). i was under it today and nothiced that it has a 3 inch inlet and 2 2.5 inch outlets. i also noticed that the inlet pipe is 2.5 inches. does it make a difference that the inlet pipe is smaller than the inlet hole or should i take it back and have the guy redo his work. i had it custom done at a shop near my house in september. also i noticed when driving down the road that myu exhaust isnt is loud as some other rams are. i was told i have the 40 series flowmaster on there but i looked and the muffler contains now markings whatsoever. i would also like to know if i should take off my muffler and put in a Y pipe or if i should change out the muffler to a different flowmaster series, or brand like gibson or aero-turbine. i would like to get more performance, but i also like it loud.
hmmm, man, that's odd about no markings. I'd take it to another dealer and ask them to identify the muffler. As for the 3" piping, I think you'd lose too much power with that huge drop in backpressure. I think 2.25 to 2.5" is the best, just throw on 3" tips. Might help to do a little research on Flowmaster kits to see what sizes they use. Make sure you get "mandrel" bent so its a smoother flow.
It might not be as loud because you have the 4.7L. I have a flowmaster on my straight six Jeep and it is not half as loud as my 40 series on my 5.9. But both of them have "flowmaster" stamped on them. Definitely take it back and find out what happened.
I have a flowmaster super 40 that is 3" in dual 2.5" out, and I do use all mandel bent tipe (it was a cat back kit). It does make a difference. Take it back and make him do it again or get some money back and go else where.
