NV243 swapped to a NV273??
Does anyone know if its possible to do this in a 1500? This is what I have considered... A 1500 4x4 Hemi, comes with a NV243 (Laramie package, dash switch) and a 2500/3500 4x4, Hemi comes with a NV273 (Laramie package, dash switch). So in regaurds to those options, I'm guessing they would bolt right up to the hemi, either having the same transmission/transfer case adapter, or a different one, it really wouldn't matter. The part that I'm not sure of, is the output shafs to the drive shafts. Are they different splines? I'm going to see if I can find a one of each and take some measurements, but thought it might be a cool swap with all the high performance mods being done to trucks. Because I would imagine the NV273 has to have a greater torque rating than the NV243. Anyone want to comment on this?
I think the output shaft of the 48RE is larger and splined different than the 545RFE.
for a good off road truck that needs the lower gearing yea that would be good. give you more torque.
