Default Tool Box Recommendation please

Looking for recommendations on make/style of tool box for 2005 Ram 1500 QC short bed. Tool box will see light duty - pretty much serving as a "trunk" for things like groceries and other stuff we don't want to clutter the cab up with. Don't plan any heavy use, like throwing tools into it on a daily basis. Would like something that looks good and is well made - I hate buying cheap stuff and having to go back and buy something better later because it didn't work well. Not sure whether to go with an over-the-rail box, or a chest that sits on the bed. I don't haul stuff in the bed too often, as the truck is mainly a family commuter, but I will need to occasionally haul the odd couch, sheet of plywood, etc.

Any comments on a good brand and style of tool box? Pluses and minuses of boxes you have experience with?

Thanks in advance

I can't remember the brand of tool box I have (Yeah, I should know), but it's a black diamond plate that looks exactly like this: http://www.pickupspecialties.com/too...ow-profile.htm. I going out of town tomorrow, but when i get back, i'll upload some pictures of what it looks like so you can start deciding what kind/style you should get.

Home Depot has the husky line. They are pretty sturdy. They open/unlock from either side of the truck. I think i paid about 250 for mine.

If yr looking for cheap price....Kragens usually has thers on sale....but i wouldn't stand behind there boxes!!!!

Otherwise, the metal Delta lines are pretty good as well.

Whatever you get....just make sure its a single lid. Otherwise, the space in the middle is usless!!!!

Thanks for the comments thus far. Am leaning towards the Delta SEC line with a low profile lid on a crossover box, or maybe a Weatherguard. Weatherguards appear more spendy and I'm not sure I really need something as high-powered as what they offer. Maybe the Delta SEC will be the way to go.

Me personally, I like a tool box in the bed but not on a short bed. My friend has one of the "in bed" tool boxes in his 03 and that thing in the biggest PITA. It has been in the way more then it has helped. If you do get one, I suggest you get an over the rail type so you can have the space under the tool box to slide in 4x8 sheets of plywood or other things. Of course it also collects the trash.

The best tool box you can buy is a weathergaurd, they cost a little more, but they are built strong and will last for ever...

Weather guard is a great toolbox but a lot bigger than any others,if you have a short bed and are only using it for a trunk don't get a weatherguard, they take up
to much room, there for guys in construction, there chop saw will fit in there e.t.c,i had a husky in my last truck and would'nt recomend it,now i have an adrian steel toolbox and its
class, there about $500 new but i bought an unwanted gift on craigslist for $250.Plus the writing e.t.c is the same colour as my truck

I have had a truck trunk, built by Creative Industries, KenMar N.D., Ph# 701-385-3244 for nine years. NEVER has it leaked a drop of water. It is dust free. and very shortly it will be going on my fourth pickup. I would not even consider any other. Another plus is that I can remove it from the bed without any help. it is all aluminum. They make several models and sizes, all of which leave room to slide things underneath. Not cheap, but worth every penny.

I personally like Husky boxes. They hold up really well and are not too expensive.

The Husky I had in my old pickup worked well. I could also stand on it without worry. Definitely get a single lid. Go for a black powdercoated model, depending on truck color, as the plain 'ole aluminum diamond-brite will dull after time if not cared for. I'd also get a deeper one with a low profile lid if going over the rail. Be sure to get a clamp on style that clamps onto the bed rail so you don't have to drill holes into the bed rail.
