Leather Stearing Wheel Worn Out at 18k Miles?!?!
ive got an 05 1500 Hemi with the Laramie package which inclues leather wraped stearing wheel. ive only got 18k miles on it and the stearing wheel is already wearing through at the top, thats usually where i have my hand while im driving, and i would expect to see this kind of wear eventually but not after only 5 months. i know its a bad pic but its the best i could do, its about 4-5 inches long and annoys the hell out of me. anyone else have this problem? im supposed to take it in to the stealership saturday for them to look at it, would they have to replace the whole wheel or just the leather? thanks for the help guys.

That really sucks after such a short period of time. I was gonna ask you... do you ever treat the leather with a conditioner? Even so it still shouldn't wear that fast. For reasons like this, I make a point to not hold the wheel in the same spot too frequently while I'm driving, or not too tight. Also, I make a point to not slide in or out of the truck, to prolong the edges of the leather seats. Too many vehicles I've seen have the leather looking like crap. Just the price we pay for leather I guess. I use conditioner every couple of months, or few thousand miles. The only problem with that is that it takes the new car smell out right away. And I LOVE new car smell, lol. Let us know what the dealer does for you on that wheel.
I've seen this happen on a Jeep Liberty Ltd. that had the leather steering wheel. It felt like it almost disinegrated when you touched it. Almost like a crappy rubber film. The dealership replaced it, no questions asked.

Same thing happened to my old Jeep... And pretty much every other Chrysler vehicle I've ever been in. I'd guess it's just one of those things? [sm=sigh.gif]
Leather wheel wearing out can be due to sweaty hands. The sweat will help to dry out the leather, leading to it wearing much quicker.
