Default 2002 Ram1500 4.7L spark plug changing

My trucks probably well past due for changing the spark plugs. How hard is it to change the plugs on the 4.7L engine. How do I remove those individual coil paks ( I guess thats what they are) Are there any special tools I need? Should I do this when the engine is cold or warm/ hot? The truck has about 42K miles on it now. Any recommendations on plugs to use? Also I was looking around the top of the engine and it looks like the intake is made of a plastic composite, is it?

The plugs are under the coils. They just unbolt. You should work on the truck when it is cold, unless you want some burns to brag about later. As far as plugs, use a quality platinum plug and extend your change interval to every 50K miles. I like NGK, but you can use whichever you want. Also, be sure to use anti-seize on the threads of the new plugs and be sure TO START THE NEW PLUGS BY HAND!!! Do not cross thread the aluminum heads. If you can't reach it with your hand, use some ruber tubing slipped over the end of the spark plug. This is very important. Tighten down and you'll be good to go. Also plan ahead of time and check all the wires as well as belts and hoses so you can purchase everything ahead of time. Good luck. Oh yeah, wearing gloves also makes your hands easier to clean up. I typically use the purple Nitrile gloves because they are more durable and oil/grime resistant than latex.

If you have a digital camera, perhaps you can take pictures and give us a tutorial...just a thought.

i agree with hdvespa NGK are great plugs for the money way better than bosch. and yea make sure it is cold before you attempt the changing of the plugs if the aluminum heads are still hot they can warp and that wouldn't be cheap to replace your heads and stuff

ditto on the NGK's these plugs are soooo easy to change. I had all of mine replaced in under 30 min. I love the way they drop straight down. It makes the whole process so much easier.
