Ignition Cylinder Problems - NEED HELP
I have a 2002 DR 1500 Quad cab. When I go to start the truck, the ignition switch is a bit rough, and sometimes I have to kind of jiggle the key to get it into a position so the ignition cylinder will turn to start the engine. I would like to replace the ignition cylinder on my own terms, rather than waiting for me to get stuck and not able to start the engine. The dealer wants about $500 to replace it - I don't think I will pay that amount. There are a few other things that happen also, regarding the ignition. When I have the key in the accessory position (key turned back), I the radio display is not lit up. Also, if I leave the key in the ignition, at any position, and open the door, I do not get the warning bell. According to the dealer, there is no problem with any wiring (that would be covered under my extended warranty), it is the ignition cylinder.
Here is what I need help with:
- Can I replace the ignition cylinder myself?
- Will replacing the cylinder resolve all of these issues?
- Where do I get the screw drivers for the steering column shroud?
- Are there any repair instructions on the web that provide the steps to make this replacement?
Thanks.

To be honest I would take it to the dealer because it sound more electrical than mechanical. You can replace the lock and tumbler but it is never easy on newer vehicles. You might have electrical failure with the lock and tumbler connnections (the radio, door ding).

There was a TSB on the Igniton SW on the 02's!!
Already had mine taken care of!!
As far as the ignition cylinder, they come Hollow from the fact. Then you have to take your original key to a lock shop, have the cylinder set up to match!
Where in the WORLD are you;No Profile,But this Happens to be My Buisness Specialty!
I have been trying to locate a TSB on the ignition replacement, or a service manual. So far, no luck. Any idea how much the parts would run for the ignition assembly?
Are you sure it's the Lock cylinder or the Electrical switch that connects to the Lock cyl. in most cars they are two different things and since you mention some electrical problems maybe it's the electrical switch. MAybe again i have not really looked into my dodge to see the type of set up it has.
Good luck
Good luck

Soundz like he is having a "Double Whammy"
The Sticky Igntion key, would be a prob with the Cylinder.
The electrical problems are caused by the ignition sw!
I would call your Dealer and ask about the TSB!
The TSB is on the Ignition SW;the electrical,Not the Key Cylinder.
I have already had mine in for it to be repaired!
