thinking about buying a new 3500
Hello.
New to this forum..
I drive 2004 nissan titan that used to have many problems with break.
I 'm thiking about buying a new 3500(regular cab,SLT) I usally drive my truck by my self. so I don't need a quad cab
and use my truck to tow my boat (20 foot) and jetskis on weekends.
But I'm not sure what options I have to have.
1. Hemi or Cummins ? which engine is better ?
2. axles ? between 4.10 and 3.73
3. transmission ? between 4 spped auto and 5 speed auto ?
Any input would be appreciate.
Thanks in advance.

with the 3500, realy the only engine option you have is the Cummins.
the engine will last way past a million miles
dont bother with the 4.10's, you'll just get horrendous fuel mileage, the 3.73's will be just fine
as for trannies, you have either the 48RE 4 spd auto, or the G-56 hand shaker. unless you feel like banging through your own gears, get the auto. oh, the 4.10's are not offered with the G56 6 spd only with the auto due to the high gearing of the G56.

The 2500 will do more than you need. I have a 21" large Bass/Ski boat and pulled it for years with a gen2 Ram 1500 without any issues. My new HEMI 2500 does'nt even know its there.
I think you will find the new 1500 Ram will seem huge comared to your Nissan.
The 3500 is for pulling bulldozers to work sites.

Or get the 3500 if they sell the 2500 you want out from under you for signifigantly less, in my case only extra $200. Course this pretty much makes it open season on that new trailer...
