Default Valve failure update

As a follow up to my 3/8/2006 post addressing the need to replace the valves in the #5 cyl, after only 36,000+ miles, the dealership now states that they also want to replace the "TIMING CHAIN". Does anyone have a inclination as to why the timing chain would also need to be replaced???? The 4.7L has actual chains driving the overhead cams and not a fiber belt, so for the life of me I can not venture a guess why one of the timing chains would also be bad, in addition to the valves in #5. Has anyone ever heard of a timing chain being the cause of valve damage in only ONE cyl.? The engine developed a miss and continued to run until I got it into the dealership, so the chain did not break apart.

Is it covered under warranty? DMX seams to have a lot of problems lately with timing chains. I would try to make them pay for it, or get a second opinion. I know the 2.7l V6 that goes in the Intrepid and Stratus (300 & Magnum too!) is horrible for it. Chrysler, of course, screws the customer and says its their fault for not changing oil enough. I've never owned a 2.7l powered anything, but if the 4.7l is having the same prob!? I own an 05 Ram 5.7 Hemi, been a Dodge guy forever, and this will probably be the last.

If you think a timing chain is bad, wait until you buy a Ford (that catches fire), a Chevy will that will literally fall apart, a Nissan with poor build quality, or a Toyota with shoddy brakes.

All manufacturers have problems, some more than others. I have friends that swear up and down their F Series trucks will run day and night. Well, my F150 was the biggest piece of crap I've ever owned. I have another buddy that will never own a Dodge because the tranny kept going out in his Dakota. It's luck of the draw!
