Default 03 Ram 1500 manual shifting problem

Hello, I am by no means an auto mechanic so please bear w/ me as I try to describe the problem I think I'm having. The pickup is an '03 Ram 1500 V6 w/44000 mi.

Things I've noticed during shifting:

There's a "clunk" when releasing the clutch. It's most noticeable when shifting between 1st, 2nd & 3rd gears.
There is absolutely no acceleration, either from a dead stop (I can do 0-60 in about a day!!) or downshifting when trying to pass.
I've also noticed, more so when the engine etc. is cold, when depressing the clutch to shift, the rpm's shoot way up, around 2300.
I'd appreciate any input in advance!!!

Thanks,

Default RE: 03 Ram 1500 manual shifting problem

what rpms do you usually run at while cruising along? sounds to me like u just need to change your driving habits...when you downshift to accelerate and pass someone you should be at atleast 3000rpm...theres no "passing power" below 2000. and I only say that b/c you said when you push in the clutch the "rpms shoot way up to 2300 rpm..." 2300 rpm is where your car should be cruisin at with the v6. smaller engines need to run at higher rpms. that "clunk" you are experiencing is probably form shifting to early. dont shift until 2500-3000 rpm.

hope this helps
