2006 Ram hemi (rust on rear axle)
I am a proud (well sorta) owner of an 06 hemi RAM QC Laramie 4x2. I noticed that the rear axle has rust from drum to drum. I have notified Dodge corp and the dealership purchased (Jerry Ulm Tampa, FL) and will take it tomorrow to diagnose. I have had the truck just over 3wks. This is crazy to say the least. Keep an eye on yours. Dodge corp adv no other complaints have been made regarding this - guess I am the lucky one.
My 05 was not in the best shape. The axle itself was not as bad as the cover. That is why I painted mine. Painting yourself will most likely be better than anything the dealer will do for you and costs less than $10.

Only the axle?? We got it on the driveshaft, axles, u-joints, anythin' on the undersides got it except for the new magnaflow. I don't know 'bout three weeks, but ya might also wanna consider how long it sat in the dealer's lot.
I have been down this road before with my last Ram. This time, I painted my rear in the first week I got my 06. I know alot of guys that use bedlined coating on the under side of their truck.

UPDATE ...
I took it to the dealership today and they prepped (as it should have been done during production) and painted the rear axle. It looks like it should. It is common to rust in the area of the axle (as you guys have posted back) because I took a walk and looked at a bunch of new trucks waiting to be purchased and WOOOLAAAAH rust was visible. I can not believe that Dodge short cuts this procedure, I mean who on Gods green earth wants to see a rusty truck underneath. What would be the purpose of having a custom diff cover only to be flanked with RUST.
I really hate to say, but to some degree I can see why folks prefer the foriegn trucks over USA. I do not want to turn this in to a political post but C'mon folks the cars/trucks need to be put together the right way and not take shortcuts.

I noticed it on my 06 and just thought it would be something that I would have to live with or fix on my own, but now that I know that some of you have had it, I'm gonna see what the Canadian dealers are doing about it. Thanks
Dealership will fix your truck, but I had to be the squeeky wheel and demand that it be corrected. Otherwise you get the "thats just the way it is" deal ... I can not say enough about the director of the body shop that I escalated to because he really came through for me. It would have made me SICK to drive around a NEW truck with the rear axle in that condition. Good luck!
