DODGE NEWBIE - Help wiring for radar detector
I thought I'd repost this from the SRT forum because it looks like this section gets more traffic...anyway,...
First, let me say that I am 100% new to the Dodge experience and I'm loving EVERY MINUTE OF IT! I'm a converted dyed-in-the-wool Ford guy. I'm decently familiar with cars and such, but I'm not familiar with the particulars of the Dodge.
I want to wire my Passport into the vehicle (like I have on all of my previous vehicles) so that it's activated/deactivated when the ignition is turned on/off, respectively. In the Fords, the fuse junction was under the driver's side dash or in the passenger kick panel. I now know that all of the fuses on my RAM are under the hood.
What is the best way to wire my hot into the system? Where should I wire it to? I'd like to avoid having to go through the firewall if at all possible.
Thanks for any help dudes!

OJ - thanks for that one especially! That's exactly where I've always normally mounted mine, but I've always run the wires under the headliner, down the A-Pillar to the fuse junction. Tapping into the overhead never crossed into my dull brain...that'll save me a bunch!

I've been trying to find a wire in the overhead console that is only hot when the key is on.(2008 Dodge Ram 1500).None seemed to work that way. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks for the input, but I was hoping to used the overhead console for power since that's where my radar detector/scanner will be. Any other ideas.

Not too difficult to run a lead down the driver's side a-pillar. Not sure what year your truck is. Look behind the knee bolster under the steering wheel. There may be a harness that has a lime green/black stripe wire. If so, it's probably a switched hot. I used the one in my '03 to power the e-fan relay and the driving light relay. Go a bit further and tie into the lighter circuit if you want. I have it running my radar detector and the GPS unit.
I tried doing mine into the overhead, but there was not a wire in there that had the power to run mine. I did have them all checked, and not one was 12v, so I went to the cigarette lighter with it.
