right on san diego hemi...gas prices are not regulated by the u.s. government anyhow...gas prices are regulated by a term, and that term is the "world market." gas prices are high now because of wars, natural disaster and the trade/stock markets of the world, not to say that governments don't play a factor there, but regulate, no. Go to yahoo.com and find Ben Steins article on gas prices, he makes it very clear, in simple terms.

But you aren't getting 21 mpg stock from the factory. Plus, the next year it jumps up to 22 mpg highway. Like I said, either trucks have to make a huge jump in technology (they are already technologically advanced), or buh bye 345 hp.

I get 12 city 16 highway. So, this new regulation means my truck needs to get 5 more mpg on the highway. Hmmm, how is that going to be possible? Either alternative fuel, OR lower the enemy of gas consumption - power. I think Dodge will do the cheaper, and easier thing, of changing power output rather than making a hybrid or alternative fuel Hemi.
That, or they'll have an O/D so friggin' tall it'll be ridiculous and bog like crap. I remember my '91 5.0 had a .68 5th...one time driving from MD to NC on I-95 I got 32 mpg taking it easy on the throttle and running about 60 the entire time. It shocked the crap out of me, but it did it. I guess low end torque and 1420 rpms at 60 doesn't hurt either. And, except for a K&N and 2-Chamber flowmasters, it was bone stock. Maybe they can put all of that Hemi torque to use, MDS, a few other tricks and make us all happy.

At least...I sure hope so.

Trucks having 24 mpg in a few years? They must be living in a dream world.

Whoever thought of this plan is a dumbass, we need to be focusing on alternative fuel sources, such as hydrogen, instead of worrying about this now.

i got this email from dodge.com last night. i wonder if this means that limitation is easily achievable after all... (without having to do drastic measures after all like dicontinue ram srt10)

Thank you for your recent email regarding the Dodge Ram trucks. It is
always a pleasure to read an email from a Dodge owner.

Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding the Dodge Ram trucks, we
appreciate your feedback. The 2007 Dodge Ram trucks will be arriving in
dealer showrooms in the fall of 2006. At this time, DaimlerChrysler has
not officially announced the pricing and product specifications for the
2007 Dodge Ram trucks. Nor, has DaimlerChrysler announced any plans to
discontinue the Dodge Ram SRT-10 for the 2007 model year. More
information will become available to us as well as being posted on the
Dodge website closer to the official release date of the 2007 models.
We encourage you to continue to contact us periodically through the
Dodge website as well as stay in contact with your local Dodge dealer
for future updates.

and yes i did ask about the HEMI too, which is why they said "they have not announced specifications yet"... see, i'm thinking if they did have to do things like "depower"the trucks they would be in panic too and probably would have informed their workers about the plans already. obviously they are not too worried about it,neither should we.

Its alarming how American's are losing their rights little by little. Just because that particualar right doesnt effect you at this time, does not mean its not importaint. The very idea of forcing any one point of view should bother every American. If its tobacco smoking, Gun control or a cars MPG. You dont have to agree with any of it but we should support the right of choice. Too many bad decisions are used under the blanket excuses like "Its for the enviorment" or "Its safer for the children". Less goverment makes for smarter Americans.

Hate to break it to you, but the problem isnt wars/natural disasters, or the idiotic stock market. It's all lack of REFINERIES. We have barrels and barrels of crude oil....but the problem during the Hurricanes were all the refineries that got smashed.

They're using the fact we have very little refineries up and running as a reason to squeeze us for money.....and while yes we do pay alot less then some countries do for fuel.....we also are a lot larger then most of those countries AND we dont have the same fuel grades that some of those countries use.

The federal government cant regulate gas prices, but the local states govt. CAN. Hawaii already does, and several other states I do believe have been considering legislation FOR it.

As for the gas mileage.....the technology has BEEN HERE. They just refuse to use it. Why? Because no one FORCES them to use it. Expect to see more and more MDS based vehicles in the future...not to mention expect to see some of these V8's possibly go bye bye.... but I expect DC will lead the way with new vehicles.

I also cant wait to say bye bye to idiotic cars/trucks that get like 8 mpg. As cool as the SRT-10 was....good riddance. Same for the retarded idiotic Hummer H2/H3, and the equally retarded Excursion. I also expect to see the Mega Cab going to exclusively diesel powered in the near future.

I love living in Canada. None of this "gas guzzler tax" or whatever you guys are talking about... And our trucks are already rated for 23MPG on the highway.

i agree with mystro.

now because of that we will get lower quality trucks. trucks will be more pointless... because (not everyone) but a lot of people buythem for their power and hauling capabilities, but if they have to run off v6s then full-size pickups wouldnt exist...ppl would "redneck" their cars and add towing stuff and make their v6s pull stuff SO THEY COULD SAVE MONEY. i like full size pickups...why? cus not only can they be a workhorse, they are more of a family vehicle compared to compact-sized ones. now people who want to go on trips with their family willhave to buy like 3 compact sized cars and take all three on the trip because of that stupid MPG law. (oh and yea... more vehicles being used simultaneously on the same trip defeats the purpose of "gas saving")
