TailGate Up or Down?!?
Just to let you guys know that I watched mythbusters and you get better gas mileage with tailgate up than down. With it down it causes a drag, with it up you have rotating low pressure which keeps the rapidly flowing air from entering the truck bed. Hope that solves the age old controversoal arguement. With it down the air passing over the roof comes straight down on the end of the bed causing drag.
this is a repost. someone was already discusing this. theres even a cool video on it that someone posted.
i found it kinda wierd when i first heard this. its funny because all these guys with trucks in my area just take the tailgate off.

Anyone know it a toolbox affects the vortex of air in the bed when the tailgate is up?

I've got a husky box and an 8ft bed, I'm sure the length of the bed has something to do withair flow too.
dRam2500CT, what MPG were you getting before and after the toolbox? Just curious because I put my toolbox in the day after I bought the truck. I have nothing to compare my current mpg to. I don't think the added weight would affect it that much unless you have every tool you own in there.
