Default Belt Tensioner

Hi guys,

I own a 2004 Dodge ram 1500 with the 5.7L Hemi. The truck has 31,200 miles on it.

When I was detailing it yesterday I noticed that while the engine is running that the belt tensioner is moving up and down about 1/2" every second. The belt doesnt squeak, or anything.

Also it still has the original belt. Which looks to be in great shape.

I was just wondering if its normal for the belt tensioner to constantly be moving while the engine is running? Should I bring it to the dealer to have it changed?

Thanks

The tensioner will move up and down while the engine is running. This just means it is doing its job.
