Default 03 CV boot install on QC 4x4 Hemi.

Just replaced the inside CV Boot on my 03 Hemi.
Took about an hour and a half (took it easy).
Lots of grease and sticky hands ha ha ha.
Gotta use gloves for this guys. Top ball joint easy to pop, using the good ole fashioned "bash it with a hammer" routine.[sm=chairshot.gif]
It soon popped off.
The toughest part was trying to install the boot clips to secure the boot. I didn't have the special clip tool and resorted to using a large set of pliers and determination.
If you have any grease on the boot at this stage, it's a NIGHTMARE to get the clips to stay on. Degrease the boot before putting the clips on or they'll just slide off under tightening.
She's done now and good to go .

Good job man! I did mine also but mine was the outside boot I found a lower profile boot that doesn't rub the lower control arm from being at a angle. yeah it went pretty easy.

I have the tool but even with, the grease has to be wiped of the mounting edge of the CV joint and off the boot that way nothing slips-n-slides. but the tool is well worth the money since it can be used on any car. I'll be doing my pass side soon, since i have to bring down the front diff to do gears i'll do that boot then(not broken yet) but it's rubbing on the controll arm so won't be long

I see that one of you guys have a lift, but other than that, why are your CV boots wearing out so quick?

I really couldn't tell you how many miles i get out of the CV boots. since it's the first replacement since i have owned it(ram) but mine has the lift and the torsion bars are torqued up higher then factory level and i could see where the boots started to rub the lower control arm. durability comes from brand to brand type of use the vehicle gets. maybe someone that has had their vehicle since new might give us a better estimate of the factory boot durability. but I would really like some hub locks so i can release them and they wouldn't have to be turning all the time. I think it might also help in fractions of MPG

I agree with you Sam about the lockers.
I don't know why my boot failed, as it was the inboard boot which doesn't rub on anything.
The boot looked as good as new when i took it off. Only a 1cm split right on one of the top edges of the pleat.
I figure it must've been a manufacturing fault or something because as I say, the rest of the boot looked so good?
But, although it was only a small cut, WOW what a load of grease got flung outta' there !!!!!
Centrifugal force and such I suppose.
