Default big black box

ok so when i open my hood there is this big black box that sits on top of my engine and i was gonna take it off and run a hose straight from my intake to my throttle body the reasoning behind that being that if air is swirling around in that box then it isnt getting into my engine but that if i run the hose straight to the throttle body then i have the maximum amount of air going straight into the engine instead of swirling in the box but i heard that i should leave the box because it allows the air to cool down before going to the engine. but if i put a cold air intake on there then could i run it straight into the throttlebody since the air would already be cooled down?

So whats your question? Your theory is correct, thats the whole idea behind retail Cold Air Intakes.

my question was should i leave the box because like my friend said it allows the air a chance to cool down or should i go ahead and take it off? and if i do leave it on there to cool the air down then should i still keep it on there after i have a cold air intake?

If you are just useing regular air filters then leave it on, but take it off if you get an aftermarket air intake system.

The box on top is for noise reduction.
